Hike the tallest mountain in Africa as you use Marangu gate through Madara hut in these 6 days. It is 5,986m high and the summit is covered with snow, it also gives a beautiful view and scenery. Enjoy endless sights of primates and bird species in the rain forested areas such as the red-tailed monkeys, white-necked raven, moorland chat among others.
You will also be rewarded with a certificate of trekking on your return to the park gate.
Day 1: Marangu Gate – Mandara Huts (8.3km / 4-5 hrs.)
You will drive to Kilimanjaro national park gate (Marangu gate) and this will take approximately an hour drive from Arusha. On arrival, the driver guide will make all the park clearances and then briefing will follow to make the hike very successful.
You will then start the hike as you pass through rain forested vegetation where you will be able to view some primates like black and white colobus monkeys, various bird species such as a white-necked raven, moorland chat, and malachite sunbird among other attractions.
The assigned park ranger guide will give you all the necessary information about the park and its wildlife species. While hiking, you will meet some other hikers who will share their experience with you.
In about 4 to 5 hours of hiking, you will reach Mandara Hut where you will have a well-earned rest and lunch. Take another short trek, of about 15 minutes to the Maundi Crater; here you will enjoy picturesque views of entire Mount Kilimanjaro slopes, entire Northern Tanzania and Southern Kenya – the Mara ecosystem and Amboseli. Spend your 1st night camping at Mandara hut.
Day 2: Mandara Huts – Horombo Huts (12.5km / 6-8 hrs.)
Enjoy a mouth-watering breakfast in the wild and after, start the hike to Horombo huts through passing in the alpine forest and moorland.
The landscapes become more rugged and rough but very interesting. Peaks of Mawenzi and Kibo can be easily viewed on this hike. After 6 or 7 hours, you will arrive at Horombo camp and relax for dinner and a night stay.
Day 3: Horombo Huts
On this day you will relax and prepare for the next day’s hike, all meals and overnight will be at this point.
Day 4: Horombo Huts – Kibo Huts (10.5km / 6-8 hrs.)
Breakfast will be served and the hike to Kibo crossing the alpine to Kibo hut and the lush mountain vegetation like giant cactus, groundswell and lobelia appear on the way.
You are highly recommended to have enough water because the hike takes between 6 to 8 hours as you cover a distance of 10.5km. Arrive and be served with dinner at Kibo huts which is 4700m.
Day 5: Kibo huts – summit (6.25km / 5-7hrs | Snow Capped Summit.
Arise early, have a snack and then hike to the Summit-Uhuru peak (5,986m) as you pass through Gilman’s point. This is a great view point as you stand on the highest peak in Africa covered with snow. After a great moment of photography, start descending back to Horombo hut for dinner and overnight.
Day 6: Horombo Huts back to Marangu Gate – Moshi (20km / 6-7 hrs.)
Descend after a heavy breakfast to Marangu gate as you pass through the forested vegetation. Upon reaching the park gate, you will be rewarded with a certificate of trekking to Africa’s highest peak and the driver guide will transfer you to Moshi to catch your flight back home. End of the tour.
